Crochet Deer Animal Applique Free Pattern

Easy deer animal pattern to personalize your knit, crochet, and other craft projects.

I live out in the country and we see deer often, crossing the street and bouncing around in the woods. Deer make all sorts of interesting noises. Sounds that once frightened me in the late evening I have come to recognize as deer calls and I am less startled when I hear them now.

I am inspired to crochet animals that live in my backyard. I am happy to share with you this design.

I hope you enjoy this easy to follow deer head applique. This free crochet pattern is for the head only. I have a crochet entire pattern for the body available. See the backyard buck pattern in my etsy shop.

The yarn I used was Red Heart Super Saver Cafe` Latte brown and crochet hook size G/4.25mm.

Round 1: Using color A, make a magic circle/ slipknot circle, ch 3 (counts as a dc st), 11 dc into circle, slst to top of ch 3 to join. 12 dc total.

Continue next step working in the same direction.

Round 2: (ch 3, tr, ch 3, slst) in same st, 2 sc, 2 sc, 2 sc, slst in next, (ch 3, tr, ch 3, slst) in same st, sc in next, (sc, hdc), (dc, htr), tr in next 3, (htr, dc), (hdc, sc), sc in next, slst to the base of ch 3 to join. Fasten off.

Right antler: Insert hook in the 2nd sc st on the left from where you last joined in round 2. Join color A.

*Ch 5, slst in 2nd ch from hook, slst in next ch st, ch 7, slst in 2nd ch from hook, slst in next 3 ch sts, ch 5, slst in 2nd ch from hook, slst in 9 sts down the rest of the antler, join to head with a slst in the same sp. Fasten off.

Left antler: Turn your work so that the Wrong Side is facing you. Skip two sts over from the previous antler made and insert hook and join color A.

Repeat sts from * of the previous antler.

Fasten off.

You can now sew or hot glue your applique to you knit and crochet crafts. Add some eyes or a red nose to make it your own. What will you decorate with your deer applique?

I used mine to decorate some slippers. See the final project of mens crochet slippers.
